Description	Near Gaylesville, Georgia Oct. 27, 1864 Beloved Parents! This is the first opportunity I have to answer your very welcome letter, which I received on the 17th. I am sorry to hear that you have been so ill but glad that you are better again. Dear Mother! You ask me in what way I am sick, and I want to say to you that although bullets and bombs have come very close at times, the Lord’s hand has saved me from them. Neither has my leg bothered me, but the sickness I had in my chest when I worked for Venadas is what has again taken hold of me, so that I suffer greatly when marching. I have been reported by the regimental doctor as being unfit for service in the field, as a result, and, I am being transferred to what is called the Invalid Corps, which service consists of guard and garrison duty. So I shall not have to march and such. So that will be better for me. How soon I will leave I do not know, but it can't be long, as it has been a month since I was reported. Since I wrote last I have marched over 100 miles after the rebel, who are going northward, and we follow them as fast as we can. We have marched very hard for 20 days but are now waiting here for rations, although we may be on the march again at any moment. I have not yet written to Sweden, and I think I shall wait until we get to some camp again. It surely would be good to have Nils over here, but if Per Jacobson and Rydstroms are so afraid that they have to have money in advance, I believe that it is best that we do not concern ourselves with them. It is probably best to wait until the war is over, as it will cause great change in everything. Dear Mother! You ask me if I could come home on leave, but that is only allowed those who have been wounded in battle. But I am hoping that this war will soon be over, and then we can meet and never part again in this life, if that is God’s will. Please tell me in your next letter whether you are planning on moving onto Mrs. Hogan’s land or not. It would be a comfortable and pleasant place, in my opinion. I will close now with many greetings.
